Sustainability is becoming the buzzword of this decade, and most probably of this century. As with all buzzwords, the true meaning of them is often disregarded. While some people may relate this topic to plant eaters and barefoot-walking greenies, or others to greenwashing companies, the phrase slowly turns into a mainstream word losing its real purpose.
Sustainability should not become a word used to blaming people on eating too much meat or businesses producing in China. Rather, it should be used as a basis for discussions, changes, and eventually major improvements. Nobody is perfect and nobody should fear to talk about their (perhaps unsustainable) habits. The only ones we can possibly blame are the ones not being honest or willing to change. These people will be most likely ourselves.
Sustainability starts with YOU! It’s the to-go coffee you pick up every morning and the daily 2-minute car ride to the supermarket. All these everyday decisions have a real impact on our future. But it’s much more than that. It’s about how you choose to live your life, how much time you allow your body to rest, whether you use your right to vote or not. It’s about raising your voice against discrimination, about sharing your skills to the ones who need them, and much more.
We want you to think smarter, to think different. Take one step at a time and don’t consider sustainability as a burden to a joyful life but as an opportunity to create a real impact. We know it’s not always easy. But we will help you by taking off the burden to live more sustainable. We are eight students from Antwerp Management School aiming to raise awareness on sustainability topics, with a focus on the city of Antwerp. This blog will inform you about interesting and sustainable topics, tips & tricks, shops and events.
It is our responsibility to contribute to the development of a peaceful, sustainable and better world. In the following weeks and months, you will hear about how to live sustainably in Antwerp. If you don’t live in Antwerp, don’t worry, there will be a lot of tips and tricks you can easily apply at home.
The idea of this blog emerged after hearing about the UN Sustainable Development Goals at Antwerp Management School. On January 1, 2016, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals came into force. These goals apply to all of us: businesses, governments, and citizens. The aim is to create a sustainable future with nobody left behind. Watch this video to learn more about the goals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G0ndS3uRdo
